Also known as ‘Moqui stones’ or ‘shaman stones’, Moqui stones are between 120 and 190 million years old and have a long mystical tradition. Hopi rituals use them to connect with the spirit world. The name of these stones derives from the Hopi word “moqui”, which means ‘dear departed’. In Hopi tradition, they are used by shamans to communicate with the dead. Legend has it that at night, ancestors descend from the sky to play with Moqui stones. When they leave at dawn, the moved stones let their loved ones know that they are happy. The presence of Moqui stones in your home will welcome and honour your ancestors and deceased loved ones.
They provide very pleasant and lasting benefits of rebalancing and renewing vital energy. They provide us with concrete help in keeping our feet on the ground, helping us to recover simplicity and integrity, not in an emotional sense, but in the sense of recovering our soul. They free us from a whole series of pacts, betrayals and bonds that are devastating and toxic to our spiritual well-being.
Moqui stones are considered by many to be meteorites, given their age, but they are actually formed when water mixes with iron, sand and limonite. If you cut open a Moqui stone, you will find a layer of haematite enclosing sandstone, and their interior is orange in colour. Since most Moqui stones are found in protected areas of Utah reserves, they are very rare.
It is important to always use two stones together, one with masculine energy and the other with feminine energy; the two different polarities can be recognised by the external appearance of the stones; in fact, the female stone is rounded, while the male element has a protruding ridge that circles its entire perimeter and is flattened. It is important to remember that the male element (with the protrusion) must be held in the hand with female polarity (the left) while the female element goes in the male hand (the right).
