Amethyst calms fears and lifts the spirit, adds a peaceful vibe to any space. Amethyst opens intuition and psychic awareness. Commonly used for protection, it has strong healing and purifying powers.

Amethyst has been highly prized since ancient times for its extraordinary beauty and its legendary powers to stimulate and soothe the energies of the mind and emotions. Amethyst is a natural tranquilizer, relieves stress and tension, soothes irritability, balances mood swings, dispels anger, fear and anxiety. It relieves sadness and pain and dissolves negativity. Amethyst activates spiritual awareness, opens intuition and improves psychic abilities.

The name “Amethyst”comes from the Greek word “amethystos” which means “not intoxicating” and is often used to encourage the energies of restraint and prevention into overindulgence. This light purple to deep purple variety of quartz is the result of the irradiation of iron within the crystal. Amethyst is often called the “Stone of Peace” as its powerful spiritual vibration encourages higher states of consciousness, meditation, intuition, awareness and action. Amethyst encourages calming energy and the uplift of one’s mood or spirit, while also infusing protective energy throughout the surrounding environment while protecting against geodetic and electromagnetic stress. Amethyst inspires a deeply peaceful vibration within any space, especially the bedroom and meditation room.

This is a useful stone for healers to use on days when you have done a lot and need to gather and replenish your energy. This is an excellent stone to use in meditation, as purple amethyst stimulates the higher chakras, and especially the third eye, while at the same time grounding us.

CURIOSITY

In Greek mythology, Amethyst was a beautiful virgin maiden. A woman whose beauty attracted the lusty attention of Dionysus (the Greek god of wine).

These torments became so relentless and overbearing that the Amethyst girl begged for the help of the goddess Diana (the goddess of wild animals). She pleaded with Diana to end her suffering at the hands of the drunken diet, and Diana listened to her prayers.

The goddess Diana, in a miraculous act of charity, transformed the girl from a beautiful young woman into a beautiful piece of clear quartz, sparkling in the bright sun.

The god Dionysus, having realized his miserable drunkard ways, wept. He cried so hard that his divine tears filled his goblet of wine, overturning the cup, pouring its contents over the beautiful newly formed quartz maiden, staining the crystal with the deep purple color that we all know and love giving it the ability to suppress the drunkenness.

To this day, the amethyst is given to those who are trying to suppress the addiction. But mostly alcohol. The word Amethyst even derives from the Greek word Koine “amethystos”, which means … “do not intoxicate”
